2 weeks ago I graduated from The Basic School, a Marine Officers Introduction to the basics of the Infantry.
There were a lot of moments over the past 6 months that I found myself questioning whether or not I had made the right choice that lead me here. At 27 years old (I turned 28 yesterday), I had a tough time realizing that I was starting all over again from the bottom up. I am watching those I went to college with progressing so far in their careers and relationships and I never thought I would be the one in the rear view mirror.
Through all this uncertainty and self-doubt though, I had one saving grace. She is the woman in this picture, the one who has kept me anchored, the one who believes in my ability to become something great just as much as I do. Calling her after BUD/S was the hardest phone call I have ever made in my life and it is something I vow to never replicate again.
I felt pride on graduation day, but not for myself. I was honored to give this gift of hardwork to my mother, showing her that I will never give up on myself because of the love she has for me.
To all those out there who keep inspiring others... Stay strong, stay safe. No matter what, always find a reason to keep fighting.
